From the beginning, what attracted both Gillian Erskine and Paul Myatt to teaching music and later into developing Forte, was the contribution that music makes in children's general education and development. They believe that in addition to benefits of academic success, children gain pleasure and self esteem from the sheer joy of being able to play music.
Whilst not meeting until 1989, both Gillian and Paul independently came to feel the same way about traditional teaching methods - "there had to be a better way..."
During the eighties Gillian and Paul separately purchased schools in Brisbane and built them into large thriving businesses. Each soon realised that while excellence in teaching standards was paramount, it was learning and developing business skills that were vital to their individual successes. In 1993, Gillian and Paul came together and created Forte.
Forte was launched in January 1994 in several locations throughout Brisbane. Forte's exclusive teaching materials were revolutionary. The system incorporated technology along with a dynamic teaching approach. In the early years, Gillian and Paul created structured systems and manuals for training both teaching and administrative staff. In this way they were able to consistently deliver and replicate the Forte concept throughout Australia and overseas.
These initial systems proved to be effective and consistent. During the ensuing years a dynamic research and development team continued to develop both the systems and training modules.
"Forte is committed to spreading the joy of learning music through expanding its music school concept throughout Australia and overseas. |
